Male High School
Founded April 7, 1856, Male High School is the oldest educational institution in Louisville and the oldest public high school west of the Allegheny Mountains. Male is recognized as one of the most prestigious secondary schools in the country.
The school offered a college degree until 1912. Located in the 900 block of Brook Street, the building was designed by architect J. Earl Henry (c 1884-1920).
The architectural style is known as Neo-Jacobean from England. The limestone central portal is the focal point of the design, with its highly stylized features and oriel window.
