Norton Hall
Southern Baptist Theological Seminary
Louisville, Kentucky
The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary was founded in 1859, in Greensville, South Carolina. In 1877, after the Civil War, the Seminary moved to Louisville, Kentucky. In 1888, the Seminary moved from rented buildings to Fifth and Broadway where it remained until 1926 when it moved to the present campus at 2825 Lexington Road in the Saint Matthew/Crescent Hill area of Louisville.
Norton Hall is named from the original Norton Hall at the seminary's previous downtown Louisville location. The current building was completed in 1926 as the main academic and administrative building of the new campus. This building continues to house many of the seminary's classrooms and offices.
